What steps should educators take when integrating social media in their classroom as an instructional learning tool? Social media can provide so many opportunities for student learning but with potential pitfalls and an ever-changing technology landscape, educators could use some guidance to get things started. In this session, you will learn 5 practical steps for implementing social media effectively, safely and purposefully in the classroom. You will leave with digital citizenship resources to set the stage for social media use and practical ideas for integrating social media tools into your school's instruction.

Common Sense: Creating a Culture of Digital Citizenship
In this session, you will learn practical steps to create a positive school culture that supports safe and responsible technology use among students and staff. First, learn how to teach students digital citizenship skills, covering eight key topics. You’ll hear ideas on how you can use Common Sense Education's free digital citizenship curriculum. Second, learn how to engage parents around managing their children’s technology use and helping kids make smart choices, including how to host a successful parent night, sharing helpful tips and advice, parent communication ideas, and more. Finally, hear practical next steps to build the capacity of your staff to integrate digital citizenship instruction and community-based activities into your school’s teaching and learning framework by participating in our Recognition Program.
