Curiosity Did NOT Kill the Cat!

In this session, teachers will learn different ways to incorporate engaging activities within their current curriculum such as creative warm-ups, logic puzzles, technology tools, PBLs, activating/summarizing strategies - all while increasing curiosity and promoting inquiry among their students. Teachers will experience strategies first hand, watch videos of implementation in real classrooms, and walk away with handouts of a variety of ideas to implement in their classroom for the new school year.

Digital Breakout EDU
A digital breakout is a spin-off of the popular Escape Room trend. In the case of Digital Breakout EDU, students must solve puzzles and clues based on various subject areas to open digital locks. The breakouts are very motivating and give students opportunities to think critically and use their creativity. Students learn how to communicate and collaborate with their team to determine the answers. In addition, they learn that finding the answer is not always the goal, often it is demonstrating grit and perseverance! We will share the 10 reasons for trying Digital Breakouts and provide teachers will resources to begin on day one!

Diving Into Data and Technology
The goal of this session is to provide teachers with the knowledge of how to use the simple assessment tool, Plickers, to dive deeper into data-driven instruction. Teachers in 3-5 will learn how to gather and analyze data in an easy and effective way to determine next steps for students in the classroom

Shark Tank
Teachers will learn how to create a PBL project by integrating SS, R, and W standards. We will be showing an example of a project that we implemented in our classrooms called Shark Tank.
This is an opportunity for students to enhance their curiosity, creativity, and passion for developing an innovation or invention. First, students conduct research about a city located in the United States (or global city), which aligns with informational reading and writing. Then, students use their research to inspire and guide them to create their own innovation or invention that would successfully thrive in their selected city. Students will persuade a panel of "Shark Tank" judges to "invest" in their product. Included in their final presentation, students are required to write a persuasive speech and create a model. This is where their creativity comes to play! This is a great opportunity for all students to shine in front of their classmates.

We will be giving teachers different resources that we used; such as parent letters, leveled reading resources, suggested layout and format, invitations, rubrics, possible lessons, google slides and student packet.
