I will provide illustrations of what this looks like in the classroom. I will offer self-reflecting questions that help guide instructional decisions. This session will outline and describe the conditions of learning necessary for impactful teaching to occur: 1. Learner must know where they are in relation to the learning target. (Where am I?) 2. Teachers will learn how to create a PBL project by integrating SS, R, and W standards. We will be showing an example of a project that we implemented in our classrooms called Shark Tank. This is an opportunity for students to enhance their curiosity, creativity, and passion for developing an innovation or invention. First, students conduct research about a city located in the United States (or global city), which aligns with informational reading and writing. Then, students use their research to inspire and guide them to create their own innovation or invention that would successfully thrive in their selected city. Students will persuade a panel of "Shark Tank" judges to "invest" in their product. Included in their final presentation, students are required to write a persuasive speech and create a model. This is where their creativity comes to play! This is a great opportunity for all students to shine in front of their classmates.
We will be giving teachers different resources that we used; such as parent letters, leveled reading resources, suggested layout and format, invitations, rubrics, possible lessons, google slides and student packet.
