Culture of Care (Invited MS/HS Teams Only) Day 1
The Culture of Care training prepares educators to deliver breathing, mindful movement, and relaxation exercises in the classroom, and to train colleagues to do the same. With a little practice, the exercises are simple for educators to learn and share. Participants in the training will learn and be able to communicate how this approach promotes social-emotional learning (SEL) in the classroom. Opening and Keynote sessions will be streamed live from 8:15-10:00 AM in the WMS Media Center; CoC PD will begin at 10:00 AM.  Applicable teams were designated by principals.

Stigma
The brain, like all other organs, is vulnerable to disease. People with mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities ore substance use issues often exhibit behaviors which others may not understand. Instead of receiving compassion and acceptance, people with disabilities may experience hostility, discrimination and stigma. The people experiencing the issues often label and stigmatize themselves. They may put up barriers which can prevent proper attention and treatment. This presentation explores issues of stigma and ways to overcome it.

Participants will learn about the organization Donorschoose.org and all the opportunities that it provides teachers for acquiring materials for their classroom through donations from the community. Participants will also hear of successful examples from successful projects that received funding from Union County that will inspire you to create your own projects. Participants will then be given an opportunity to register and start posting their own projects to the website.

Psychosis Simulation
Psychosis Simulation involves an interactive learning simulation of hearing voices. Participants will learn the symptoms and signs of psychosis, as well as the risk factors, incidence and treatment options. Participants will need to bring their own smartphone and ear buds.
