How Can I Maximize My Impact on Students This Year?

In this session I will define and illustrate what impactful teaching is: instruction that leads to positive, measurable, lasting and immediate change in students. I will provide illustrations of what this looks like in the classroom. I will offer self-reflecting questions that help guide instructional decisions. This session will outline and describe the conditions of learning necessary for impactful teaching to occur:
1. Learner must know where they are in relation to the learning target. (Where am I?)
2. Student buy in (Why should I change?)
3. The steps to reach the goal. (How do I get there?)

Finally, I will share specific, tested techniques that teachers can immediately implement in their classrooms that support impactful instruction. This will include artifacts from Rock Rest classrooms- rubrics, data collection forms, feedback templates, student checklists, learning trajectory graphs and anchor charts.
