What adolescent students find interesting leads them to wonder. Students relish a good story, particularly in the social studies. Stories that evoke interest facilitate the natural development of questions. Teachers can leverage learner's curiosity as an invitation into texts and use short texts to initiate inquiry. This workshop provides examples of short texts and methods that facilitate inquiry in social studies. Participants will receive a collection of short texts and instructional methods for scaffolding inquiry.
